They need to fix their active parking assist function that triggers the rear camera issue. Even the manual reveals this design flaw by not having a manual option to disable the parking assist function that triggers the rear camera to pop out when driving forward.

“Active Parking Assist is an electronic parking assistance system that uses ultrasound with the assistance of the rear-view camera or 360° camera. When you are driving forwards up to approximately22 mph(35 km/h), the system automatically measures parking spaces on both sides of the vehicle.”

The camera automatically pops out to look for parking spaces when driving at low speed! Unfortunately we can’t disable this function.

I was wondering why the rear camera would need to deploy when the vehicle is moving forward. That explains it.

I am driving a loaner, a 2024 GLC 43, and it has the problem too but it is nearly silent, proving that they can make a quiet camera assembly. That's all they need to do, make it quiet.

Whether the car has the active parking or not, the same software may be rolled out to all Mercedes which may cause this to occur on many of the recent models. My salesperson says it also does it on the new GLS SUVs. He said they can’t simply remove or disable a piece of the software. I think it’s a design flaw with the software.

My Mercedes service manager says that Germany is well aware of the design flaw. That they are indeed working on a fix and that they hope to have it soon. I told him until MB does indeed have a fix to simply program it such that it only extends when I put the transmission into reverse so I can see what is behind me. He was going to send that temporary solution request to Germany. We shall see.
What is the name and location of your dealer? I would like my service manager to know about this.
Thank you.

Got our 2025 GLE 450 SUV coupe two weeks ago with 20 miles on it. It was fine for the first 100 miles (or maybe it was present but we just didn’t notice since it was a brand new car to us), but now into the third week, we noticed the camera popping out every time we slow down to about 15mph. I thought this luxury car was supposed to be quiet but this camera noise is so irritating every time I drive it. It’s a 2025 car but the problem has been around for a while with other Mercedes models based on the forum. We need a fix!
I bought the 2024 GLE 450 on Sept. The rear camera pops in and out at 15mph UNLESS you do the calibration on every start for about 5 mins below 20 mph on local before going on the road. (this was suggested by MB Germany and MB USA).
Dealer said it is NORMAL, wont do anything without MB factory advice. Now I made a formal complaint to MB USA Atlanta, waiting for response.

I love the car other than this annoying defect.

Has anyone tried to apply for lemon law? I have the same issue with my GLE 350. Love that car, but that sound is killing me, and my kids are most of the time scared of that sound. Also, does anyone have a problem with the transmission not working properly? Took to the dealer twice. The first time they did an update. The second time they couldn't find any problem, but the problem is present. Mostly, the problem with changing gears, and also, a car freezes when you need to go faster, making a loud noise but not switching gears. And the last one, when at the traffic light and you are changing your foot from brake to gas, it is just rolling backward, or if reverse, it is going forward. The dealer said it is normal IT IS MERCEDES:))) I am very disappointed with this car. The worst car ever and the most expensive.

I spoke with a lemon law attorney. He said car has to spend a certain number of days in the service department with them unable to fix it.

Mercedes is saying nothing is broken, that this is normal. That is how Mercedes is getting around this.

Maybe this:
Fraud or misrepresentation
You can sue a dealership for fraud if they made a false representation about a material fact.
The dealership must have known the representation was false or been ignorant of its truth.
The dealership must have intended to induce you to act.
You must have acted in reliance on the representation.
You must have suffered foreseeable damages or financial loss.
