AutoGuide took out the 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class and wrote up a nice review for us. The review points out some pros and cons.

Pros
- Fuel-efficient powertrains
- Practical interior
- Smooth driving dynamics

Cons
- Looks too similar to the old M-Class
- Comfort mode a bit too vague

This is what they write as the "verdict".

The GLE-Class receives a new name with its refresh, but it still feels familiar. The new fuel-efficient powertrains and customizable drive modes are a great addition to the vehicle and only add to its reputation for having smooth driving dynamics, a comfortable interior and high-tech features.

Yes, that is my biggest beef too. I want a new car every four years, when the warranty runs out. But I want it to feel "new", if you know what I mean. The 2012 ML350 I have was a true departure from the norm and instantly became the luxury mid-size standard. The new GLE does not make such a statement. In fact, some things such as the tablet-like screen are a step in the wrong direction. There is also a downsizing of motors such as the diesel 250, which many people find inadequate in this kind of vehicle. Bottom line is that where I would automatically look to MB for my next car, I now have to shop the competition. The new 2016 Lincoln MKX is one that is intriguing, especially in the Black Label interior. Once it gets Sync 3 it may very well be the best in its class. It certainly is worth a look anyway.
