Today's white paints are striking on today's heavily-styled cars. The lighter color emphasizes all of the sheet metal contours, while darker colors obscure body lines.

A car like the GLE Coupe wears an expressive body, so it's best suited to a lighter color in order to bring attention to the complexity of the design.

Other cars with simpler lines don't need a lighter color to bring out all the surface details. A darker color (like black) may fit those cars better.

It does look great in white. I think especially at the back. I like the simplicity of the rear. The silver line across the top of the tail lights and the red tail lights themselves are both great accents.

The horizontal line across the top is a Mercedes design signature for "coupe" designs that goes WAY back...I like it too

How far back does it go exactly? Any examples of classic Benzes that have the same design feature?

I think that design feature goes way back to the CLS, where this whole coupe styling thing started for MB.

Here is a quick example off the top of my head.


Notice how the W126 coupe chrome goes all the way to the edges, while it stops short on the W126 sedan. Mercedes design language at work.
