I just purchased a CPO 2016 GLE.I didn't even think it would be necessary to do preliminary research on the adequacy of the stock headlights. I've driven and owned numerous Mercedeses and BMWs in the past -- all with halogen headlamps -- and they were all sufficiently bright, EXCEPT FOR THE 2016 GLE. It is not safe to drive at night with these weak lights. Mind you, I'm not into having cool-looking HIDs, LEDs, or Xenons (which would require a retrofit that may void portions of my warranty) -- I just want to have good visibility when I am driving at night. It truly is a safety issue.
I've been to the dealer to confirm that my headlights are operating properly. I've since learned that the stock H7 bulbs cost $15/pair at the parts counter. The dealer offers "enhanced" H7 bulbs for $65/pair. My issue is that headlights are covered under the CPO warranty. As I understand it, the warranty only covers the stock bulbs. I just wrote to MBUSA to ask if they could replace my bulbs with the "enhanced" H7s under warranty.
Amazon also sells Philips x-treme vision H7 bulbs for $25/pair. Based on information on another forum, these bulbs are exactly the ones that Mercedes sells for $65 -- the only difference is the Mercedes box. If this is true, that is quite a rip-off since the Mercedes price is 2.6x the price on Amazon.
