Mercedes-Benz has quite the vision for the future of motoring.

Bowing at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show is the Mercedes-Benz Vision Tokyo, being billed as a 'mobile club lounge for young, urban trendsetters' by the German automaker. The concept follows up on the F 015 Luxury in Motion that debuted earlier this year with the Vision Tokyo paying homage to the urban Generation Z. The company believes that millennials find vehicles to have a different role, no longer just a simple means of getting around, but a digital automobile companion.

One glance at the Vision Tokyo and you’ll notice its unique shape, further accented by the monochrome Alubeam paintwork and the side windows that have been screen-printed in the color of the vehicle. It also features a continuous stretch of glass panelling with up to five passengers accessing the interior through the upward-swinging door on the left-hand side.

The hologram thing is very unrealistic at this point. What is the point of that?

It looks like a holographic version of your phone apps. I know it's just concept but still unnecessary and probably aimed towards shared car companies like UBER.

It's not that it isn't cool and useful if it did exist, I just feel it's so far away from reality at the moment. They may as well be sci fi writers.

But that's how concepts are done, in the end it takes years to eventually see things like this trickle down and when we get them they aren't entirely as seen. These require a wow factor and tech like this allows for that.

Thank Nissan is coming out with a self driving car in 2020, probably not a commercial model either, so anything like this will be way after that time.

But that's how concepts are done, in the end it takes years to eventually see things like this trickle down and when we get them they aren't entirely as seen. These require a wow factor and tech like this allows for that.

I just feel with most concept technology it seems a bit closer to reality than this center hologram. And I think that if that technology someday does become a reality, i don't think that a car company would create it. It would be something like Apple, LG, Samsung, Sony... Why would car companies be devoting lots of R&D resources to hologram control panels?

We've seen autonomous cars testing. Where are the hologram tests?
