Hey forum,

I'm planning to buy a new 2018 GLE in a few months. Currently driving 2013 Mercedes ML350 with about 130,000km on it. Usually, I change a car every 3-4 years, so time has come. Thank you for having me here, I'm looking forward talking to you.

Cheers.

Have you at least taken advantage of the GLE's sitting on dealer lots currently? Being a new model its not exactly a vehicle people are familiar with by default.... but that's if you're after the coupe and not the SUV version.

Will you buy from the lot or build to order? Are there specific options you want or don't want in this SUV?
Usually, I just buy cars from the lot, but this time I'll build and order it. I'm thinking about Wood/Leather Steering Wheel and Multicontour Front Seats with Massage ($1,200.00), it's a bit pricey but I think it worth it.

If you're looking to have more negotiating room and get a lower price then it would be a better idea to buy one off the lot and often they aren't too bad. Plus who knows you might get lucky enough to find one similar to the spec you want. Not all buyers hold through till the end.

I think you're right. First, I'll try to find something that's going to be similar or at least have 70%-80% of what I want, in the worst case scenario I can always order it online:)

Buying from the lot will give you a better value… especially if you buy at the end of the model year when they offer all kinds of discounts. There are still plenty of colors and options to choose from if you do this. I suggest you buy sometime between July and November when they are really trying to clear out models from the previous year and offering discounts.

You didn’t ask, but I think the massage seats are overpriced and not worth it. The options you want are heated seats (if you live where it snows) and ventilated seats (if you live in a place like Florida). Presumably your GLE will be parked in a garage at home and at work, but if you live in colder climates a heated steering wheel may also be worth paying for. Not all GLEs come with a sunroof, which I found interesting. I use my sunroof almost every day. The sun is too intense during the day, but at dusk I have the shade open and at night I open the whole sunroof.

I live in FL and back when I was shopping, the salesman at MB of Pompano tried over and over to give me a deep discount on a car he was trying to move. It was a GLE 43 that had heated rear seats. I told him I will never ride in the back seat of my car and since it is Florida heated rear seats were stupid. He kept trying to push that particular car and I told him, even it was half priced I wouldn’t be interested. Finally he gave up.

Its things like that which motivates some of my friends to buy used MB's just because of how cheap even the fully loaded models get. It helps even more that we can get aftermarket warranties or buy a used Benz with one included.

Perhaps I am cynical, but I do not believe any kind of massaging seats are going to make you more comfortable in a car--no matter how long or short the ride. Heated seats have a proven value in winter... as do ventilated seats in hot/humid weather. Lumbar support is also a proven aid, but massage seats are little more than a gimmick. An expensive one! If you like massage start seeing a licensed masseur. I met one at my physical therapist's office after I had a car accident a couple years ago. She was amazing. So amazing that I asked her if she offered private massages. She does. About once a month she comes to my home with her table and oils and gives me a 90 minute massage. It is pure bliss! No car seat massage can compare with that.
