GLE63 S Coupe vs the X6M

Which of the hopped up, hunch back haulers takes the crown? In the latest episode of Motor Trends Head 2 Head, Jonny Lieberman orchestrates a light hearted look at the pair of super SUV's.

Before we get to the video lets get some basic information out of the way. the AMG makes roughly 10 more horsepower then the BMW, 576 to 567. However the BMW does weigh 200 lbs less then the big Merc.

The weight difference shows when Randy Pobst took both around Willow Springs, the BMW crossing the line some 4 seconds faster then the GLE.

Regardless of what this means to your purchasing decisions, MT has 20 minutes of super SUV shenanigans, for your pleasure of course.

At the end of the day, although the X6 won, it's largely going to depend on what badge someone wants to be rocking, for most people the performance these offer is more than enough.
I mean we all know this is not how cars are bought ;)
Let's face it, most of us won't go on track with the GLE63 S Coupe or the X6M so it's down to personal preferences. Either one should be enough for weekend drives on curvy roads and I much prefer the Mercedes grille than the BMW nostrils. I can't be the only one who thinks the BMW grille looks like nostrils.
Now that you've pointed it out I can't unsee it on the BMW.
End of the day, I like the GLE63 S more.
The exhaust note of the GLE sounds better anyways.
Would the extra 200 pounds in the GLE not add to the body's stability?
Not sure. I assume the handling was from how the weight is distributed.
Is anyone else taken aback by the price difference between the two though? You don't even get much more for the extra money.

I'm not, and don't think it will impact someone's buying decision. Some people like myself are loyal enough to MB that they'll go for it over the BMW. Loyalty is big.

On the street and with everyday usage it doesn't matter, these test are more for seeing what they are really capable of. There's only so much of this power and speed you can apply on the street.
but what you do get is immesurable, envy and ego bumps ;)
