Whether you view that as compliment or criticism will depend largely on what you expect from the GLE Coupe.

Improving on the existing formula was always going to be difficult, SUV coupes are still at the crux, SUV's. Auto Express had their time in a GLE 350d Coupe but always came back to the fact that the big Merc simply can't hide its weight despite the sveltely carved bodywork.

Things may be different with the GLE 63 S, but you'll likely sacrifice some of the quietness and refinement Auto Express praises the diesel for.

Other then brand preference I can't see anyone being swayed either way by either product. Design wise the two are extremely similar, Auto Express goes so far to call it an X6 clone...

But is the price the same? I think that might be what it comes down to for me. What is the value proposition?
Sometimes its even image for some folks, and for some MB is gold standard while BMW falls under. Plus for most, when they get into affording X6 pricing, going higher within the same segment with a comparable model is doable.

I get that. I suppose for me the driving experience will be a big part, but styling seems pretty equal to me. Price seems like the biggest difference between the two. I need to be convinced the higher price is actually paying for something more.

well don't you think that onus falls on you? Its your money to spend, we can't convince you if the value is there, we all have different metrics for value....

Ultimately that's how it is for most buyers that really want to know what they're getting into, it's seeing the vehicle in person that plays a big role in someones buying decision!

Only so much you can get from it online.
