Driver seat motor semi-working

Good evening, I am hoping someone in this forum can provide me with some advice as I am worried that my local Merc dealership is trying yo pull a fast one on me. I have a 2020 GLE 300. In the last month, the driver seat has stopped moving backwards and forwards when I use the control panel on the door. However, when my wife and myself switch profiles in the car, it has no problem adjusting the seat to the correct position (this involves moving the seat backwards and forwards)

I took it to my dealer who said that the back passenger and been sticking his feet under the driver seat, has ruptured the plastic cover that shields the seat motor and also damaged the seat motor. He said that the whole component would require replacing for a sum of £1800 and it was not covered by warranty as he said my son has damaged it.

I'm not too convinced because the motor still works beautifully when we switch profiles. Sometimes there is a bit of a whirring noise when we change profiles and sometimes it doesn't make any noise.

Could anyone provide some thoughts ? The dealership diagnosis doesn't seem quite right to me.

Thank you very much.

Sounds a bit suspicious... I'd go back to the dealer and make a bigger fuss.
There's no way a foot under the seat would damage that motor. You'd have to REALLY kick it hard to damage it.
And... as you mentioned; it works fine under your wife's profile.

Did you have a look under the seat, to see for yourself? Is it visibly damaged?

Thanks JimmyDee for your thoughts. Well oddly enough, they returned the car to me because the part was on back order. When I look under the seat, it is now a big pile of mess with a brown cable completely disconnected and no cover on it. It looks like someone had run out of time, pushed all the components back under the seat and left it. The underside of the passenger seat is nice and tidy with no cables visible. I keep looking at how far in the motor is under the driver seat - my son would have had to be wearing clown shoes to have damaged it. And I don't see any damage, only the mess they have left it in. Starting to feel a little angry now about it.

Spoke to a few other garages, they believe one of the switches in the door needs replacing in order to control the motor that slides the seat backwards/forwards. I would not expect this to cost me £1800.
Yeah... I'd definitely be calling them on Monday morning.
Looking online, and that replacement motor part is around $165.00 US (about 135.00 pounds).

For 1,800 pounds, they could replace both front seats!
