Distronic?

Anecdotally a friend with a Distronic equipped 2015 C class recently did a 100 mile trip from home to his cabin without touching the brakes... He said its a bit unnerving at first letting it brake for you completely but after the first time you settle in. System is smart too, if there is any sort of obstruction it disables itself... Which is good and bad depending on where it decides to quit...

i bet it uses more fuel accel and decel. GO on the highway put your car in cruise control and push the + button, its an aggressive increase, not smooth like your foot...

As the entire system improves and gets optimized to take in more information i bet it will become smoother in those situations.

Sounds like that might be a long way out
A lot of things to factor in with such an intricate system
Even longer when you factor in the trickling down process form higher to lower end models.
