I am wanting some Boat Shoes that are capable of a lot of use, so I reckon a pair with commando type soles would be the best bet.

Can anyone recommend a good make, preferable a make you have experience of, that is capable of a good pounding.

You can always buy a pair of Doc Martens and cut them down because that's the closest you are going to get to the type of sole you are looking for. If you are hoping to buy some that should hold up well, Sperry's makes good boat shoes. They are a staple in my coastal town and surrounding marinas.
