YouTuber Supercarsfromeu, captured on film a new generation GLE 63 being test driven on the Nurburgring, Nordschleife and the chances of it being an AMG model is quite high thanks to the SUV's prominent Panamericana grille. Said grille is already being used by the AMg GLC and GLC Coupe.
If that is indeed the AMG variant, then we can expect to see a beefy body kit under that camouflage wrap, larger wheels with upgraded braking system, and a V8 powered MHA platform.
More specifically, we may see a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine under the bonnet in two levels of tune; a 563 hp and 553lb-ft of torque variant, or a more powerful 603 hp and 627lb-ft of torque ‘S’ model. That is similar to what you would find in the 2018 Mercedes-AMG E63 and E63 S, with the performance trim accelerating from zero to 100km/h in just 3.3 seconds.
Diesel and plug-in hybrid powertrains could potentially be offered as well, though those in the States may not see the diesel option due to the whole VW Dieselgate scandal and they just don’t seem to be as popular compared to Europe.
The regular 2019 GLE is set to launch next year and the AMg varaints should follow shortly.
