Towing with GLE350

Does anyone have any insights or helpful suggestions when towing a trailer with a GLE350?

Take your time. Have you towed much before? How big of a trailer are you towing and approximate weight?

I have towed quite a bit but never with this Mercedes. The trailer is a 16 foot Haulmark with trailer brakes and may weigh as much as 5k. I asked my MB dealer and they said just hook on and go. I as wondering if I needed a brake controller. I do plan on getting towing mirrors.

Okay okay that's not too bad, you shouldn't need a brake controller. Proper towing etiquette and you should be smooth through. Towing mirrors would help a little. Putting a car on the trailer? Enclosed or open?

Probably at most you will want better brake pads if you're concerned that brake fade will happen. Not always are stock pads best for certain things like this, car makers just give us entry-level pads that do a little bit of everything good enough.

Its an enclosed trailer. I pulled this trailer about a thousand miles with my old Jeep GC with a 6 cylinder and it had a brake controller. It was all the Jeep wanted when it came to hills. I was just wondering if MB had an integrated brake controller with the GLE350 or if one needed to be installed in order to have trailer brakes. My MB dealer hasn't been very helpful in this respect.

Seeing how a month has passed by and there has been no response, have you had any luck in getting this resolved? Can't imagine all these good summer days going by and that issue still going on. It might help some other members here as well.

I too would like to know because I've been looking around and the few suggestions I've found told me to refer to the trailer manufacturer about it.

That might be your best bet, which manufacture did you go with? Would be interested in seeing what sort of information they list. But even with whatever information they provide you I still think you should get a second opinion.

Any time you tow more than 50% of the tow vehicle weight you do need brakes.
