Hi-Performance Only?

If Autonews has their wording correct it would seem that Mercedes is only planning to offer the GLE coupe in hi-po trims. Now I'm not sure if they mean AMG only or also AMG sports?

I think they mean the coupe will sell in America in only two variants - the semi-AMG (sport) and the full AMG (63). I was sort of interested in the coupe because the GLE does not differ enough from my ML 350 to make it feel like a "new" car to me. The coupe is a totally new vehicle but I really don't need any kind of AMG. Even the watered down version is too much motor for me at my age and driving style, not to mention the price. I have nearly a year before my warranty runs out and I'll be buying another car. Chances are I will shop around a lot more than I would have had the coupe been offered in various and tamer motors, as it will be offered outside of America.

Not sure I really get the decision here. Give the people what they want, in my opinion. If they don't get what they want here, they will likely be able to find it somewhere else.

Those are the two trims i've always seen as the core to the brand and what it should stay limited to. Plus people love rocking the AMG badge, only giving them those two options won't discourage them at all... those with MB money that are loyal to the brand continue to stay loyal.

I think that MB is trying to open the brand up more to people who are on the borderline of having MB money. If you can sell them a slightly more attainable MB now, then in the future they are more likely to come back for a higher end model.

That and what helps with the MB that they're using to open the brand up now is of course that very same vehicle then the parts and things needed for servicing for it which over time can add up to a lot

Some folks hated to see this happen, saying MB is going watered down. CLA was the key model that I seen a lot of comments like that on.

But the CLA itself is watered down. The GLE I don't think is watered down in its base form. I see their point, but I think that MB can open itself up more with out losing its luxury edge.

I'm not doubting it, i know this is the case, i'm just saying that's what folks are noticing.

That's just the cost of volume even more so when its volume with a cheap entry-level car.

At the end of the day you get what you pay for.
