GLE Hybrid Fuel Economy

Supposed to be getting 76mpg; actually getting 22??
With sensible driving and electric charging. Does anyone think this is normal ?

hi,
indeed normal. I also have 22mpg. But that is still ok with me. This is a big car and a v6 engine. I had a BMWx5 3.0 Diesel and that was also about 21 mpg.

My experience with our 2016 S550e has been very different. We do a lot of short mileage trips, and often stay on pure electric the entire day. After 6000 miles, we average 34-36 mpg. High of 42. This car weight about 100 pounds less than the GLE, and is more streamline, so high speed mileage might be better, plus the 4WD might take up some as well. But I wouldn't think it would by that different. We do "baby" it to see how high we get the mileage. Obviously the more you stay on complete electric, the better it is. I have a pair of higher power chargers in the garage, one for the S, which charges it in about 1.25 hours, and one for the GLE550e which is still sitting in Alabama waiting for the update mileage window sticker since 7/29/16 when it was completed. Some of the best driving impression with the S550e is putting it in the next position below "hybrid", I think called "e mode". You can depress the peddle much further than on "hybrid" without the engine coming on, and accelerate rather quickly, at least for city driving. It's good up to about 80 MPH. But it's really for short trips like 14-15 miles, which we do frequently, and sometimes come home with 99.9 MPG on the meter. On the other hand, my 2015 GLS550 gave me about 13 MPG around town, and maybe 19 on the road if I was easy on it.

It might help to list how you guys drive and what you have going on inside the cabin since there are a lot of things that can be impacting your fuel economy and can help to pin point if there's some action we should be doing with how we're driving or if its something for Mercedes to deal with.

The GLE 500e boasts 3.3l/100km (71mpg) and for you to be getting 22mpg, that sounds like it's strictly the v6 working without any help from the electrical aid part at all. That seems odd. Maybe heavy footed driving.. all the time ?

Ultimately we'll have to start by knowing what this person driving habits are like then from that point on work downwards on technical issues. But at this point maybe the OP took it into Mercedes, don't know how someone can wait that long on an issue like this.

I now have 2500 miles on my 2017 gle550e hybrid. I do the ideal driving for this car. Mostly short trips around town with some 50 mile round trip congested freeway trips. My first full tank was a fill on 12/28/16. I did all short trips, usually on e-mode which lets you accelerate more aggressively withou turning on the gas engine. Most 8-10 mile driving days had zero gas miles. I got 975 miles on the tank, refill was 14 gallons plus on feb 4!! 723 miles were totally electric. Read 50 mpg on the dash, but calculated out to 49, but that was really close. Since then I got 40 mpg on the next, with more longer trips using the gas. 600+ miles before the fill. The next tank I did a number of 50 mile trips. 30 mpg on those trips and with less than half a tank my gauge reads 34 mpg. This is more ordinary I believe. While I love the e-M0de performance its not always the most enconomical use. On one trip I did s9me hill climbs on paddle, and saved th electric for a horrible 10 mile stretch of freeway that took an hour. Everybody not on an e-veh or hybrid was sitting there burning gas. Mine was silent and used no gas at all for that stretch. Some days with 2 trips, I managed to charge twice and several times charged for free at a charge station. Last gas fill was done early just to get the drive through car wash. Oh yes, try the 'sport" mode. Real change of personality. Even seems the exhaust gets snarly. (I have the air suspension option. Might be different without it, but I've adjusted the suspension similar to Sport mode, at all times). 0-60 at 5.3 seconds in a 5400 pound 4 wheel drive SUV that can for the right circumstances get suburb mileage is incredible. LOVE IT!

Glad to hear sport mode creates some real difference in performance since i haven't heard as many positive things come out from the GLA, its been more disappointment than anything else with those modes, at least from the owners ive spoke to. Has anyone here driven the GLA???

I have no idea where this 43 MPG on the sticker came from. Can anyone let me know if they were able to get that kind of mileage? If so, please give me some tips on how to efficiently drive this. I drive mostly on HYBRID mode and it give me 18 miles for gallon :-(
